YSDCT Annual General Meeting

The Yate, Sodbury and District Annual General Meeting was held at 2pm on Friday, 3rd June in the Watkins Room, The Grammar School, Chipping Sodbury High St.

As well as providing an overview of the financial position, YSDCT chairman, Howard Gawler, thanked Manager Bev Leworthy, her staff and volunteers, particularly retiring drivers, Roger Stimpson and Ian Godwin.  He also thanked South Gloucestershire Council, Chipping Sodbury Town Council and Dodington Parish Council for their financial support during the year.

Bev echoed the chairman's thanks to funders and volunteers, particularly highlighting those who work behind the scenes furnishing the organisation with information and support and giving so freely of their time.  She noted how "lucky we are to have an incredible team working for YSDCT - both admin staff and drivers - who go the extra mile to offer support and assistance to individuals, often contributing extra time without remuneration". Bev officially welcomed new user groups and thanked the existing ones for their continued support, despite rising costs.

Our new vehicle, 'Lennon', was mentioned. This latest addtion to the fleet will accommodate similar bookings to those undertaken by Big Bird, by far our most adaptable vehicle.  Ring & Ride booking hours have been extended until 2.30 pm, Monday to Friday, enabling more passengers to contact YSDCT and arrange their transport.

Day trips continued to be well supported, users were encouraged to come along and meet new people aimed at reducing the social isolation experienced by some of our passengers.  YSDCT hopes that during the summer the outings will be able to travel further afield as well as continue to explore local venues and places of interest.  Suggestions and feedback are welcomed.

A short speech by new committee member, Michael Dollin, was followed by the presentation of the accounts and an opportunity to ask questions before the meeting was formally closed.

Jim - our accessible car
South Gloucestershire Council contributed £22,000 towards the purchase of an accessible vehicle to be used for the carriage of single wheelchairs and carers. This new vehicle, Jim, entered service on 3 June 2010.

Jim has enabled us to take wheelchair users on holiday, young people to college and patients to hospital and medical appointments outside our Ring & Ride areas.
